Inner voice....

Anyone who does not close himself to the voice of the heart must inevitably do what is pleasing to God, for this voice only sounds where the human being strives towards God, i.e., as soon as he has turned away from God, the inner voice keeps silent.... but not that it also speaks and could persuade man to do evil. The person who gives in to the urging of evil forces.... i.e. does what is contrary to God's will.... will never again hear inner cries of admonition or warning. He has silenced the voice within him by not obeying it when it admonished or warned him. So if the voice in the heart sounds, it is always the divine voice, and what it tells man to do will always be right before God. A person can therefore never act wrongly if he respects his inner voice and obeys it, because he has the will to do good and therefore cannot act wrongly. Only if he has not yet freed himself from worldly desires, if he wants to fulfil earthly desires, then the enemy will tempt him through these earthly desires, and he will hold all earthly pleasures and desires against the urging of the heart. And then the danger is that the inner voice is not heeded. Then the body has gained the upper hand over the heart. And man's will has turned towards that which it should overcome. So that will always be the measure of when the divine will is fulfilled, whether the body and its desires are complied with or whether what the human being does and thinks is of benefit to the soul. And the voice of the heart will always demand that a person do what is beneficial to the soul, but will never sound in favour of the body's desires. Anyone who seriously wants to fulfil God's will will also hear the inner voice clearly enough, he will always know what God requires of him, he will just sometimes lack the strength to carry it out.... but then he only needs to pray and the strength will come to him. His will and his prayer can do everything. However, if he lacks one of the two, his life is a struggle and a fight until he asks sincerely and wills wholeheartedly.... The will of man can accomplish everything if it is united with the divine will. And prayer should therefore apply to the still weak will, for what is incomprehensible to the human being becomes clear to him if he regards himself as a work of God's creation which is inseparable from its creator. And therefore the being is also in constant contact with Him and need only want to feel this connection.... through the divine voice which constantly instructs the human being what he should and should not do.... Yet whether he listens to it depends solely on his will, for God certainly admonishes and warns all His living creations but He does not force them to obey Him....

Innerlijke stem

Degene, die zich niet voor de stem van het hart afsluit, moet onvermijdelijk dat doen, wat God welgevallig is, want deze stem klinkt alleen maar daar, waar de mens naar God streeft. Dat wil zeggen dat de innerlijke stem zwijgt, zodra hij zich van God afgekeerd heeft. Maar het is niet zo dat ze dan eveneens spreekt en de mens tot het kwade aan zou kunnen zetten.

De mens, die aan het aandringen van de boze krachten toegeeft, dus dat doet wat in strijd is met Gods wil, zal nooit een innerlijke vermanende of waarschuwende roep horen. Hij heeft de stem in zich tot zwijgen gebracht, doordat hij haar niet in acht nam, als ze hem vermaande of waarschuwde. Als dus de stem in het hart klinkt, is het steeds de goddelijke stem en wat ze de mens gebiedt te doen, zal ook steeds juist zijn voor God. Dus de mens, die acht slaat op zijn innerlijke stem en haar opvolgt, kan nooit verkeerd handelen voor God, want deze heeft de wil tot het goede en kan daarom niet slecht handelen.

Alleen maar wanneer hij zich nog niet vrij gemaakt heeft van wereldse verlangens, wanneer hij aardse verlangens vervullen wil, lokt hij de vijand juist door die aardse verlangens aan en deze houdt de mens alle aardse vreugden en lusten voor, tegen de drang van het hart in. En dan bestaat het gevaar, dat er geen acht geslagen wordt op de innerlijke stem. Dan heeft het lichaam de overhand gekregen over het hart. En de wil van de mens heeft zich toegekeerd naar dat, wat het had moeten overwinnen.

Dus de maatstaf zal steeds zijn, wanneer de goddelijke wil vervuld wordt. Of er voldaan wordt aan het lichaam en zijn verlangens of dat, wat de mens doet en denkt, tot nut van de ziel is. En de stem van het hart zal het opnemen eisen van dat, wat bevorderlijk is voor de ziel, maar nooit ten gunste van de verlangens van het lichaam klinken.

Degene die nu ernstig de wil van God wil vervullen, hoort de stem ook duidelijk genoeg. Hij weet altijd wat God van hem verlangt, maar soms ontbreekt het hem aan kracht om dat ook uit te voeren. Maar dan hoeft hij maar te vragen en de kracht zal hem toegestuurd worden. Zijn wil en zijn gebed weten alles gedaan te krijgen. Ontbreekt het echter aan één van beiden, dan is zijn leven net zo lang een strijden en worstelen, totdat hij vurig bidt en heel ernstig wil.

De wil van de mens brengt alles tot stand, als hij zich met de goddelijke wil verbindt. En het gebed moet daarom de nog zwakke wil betreffen, want wat voor de mensen onbegrijpelijk is, wordt duidelijk voor hem als hij zichzelf als een scheppingswerk van God beschouwt, dat onscheidbaar is van zijn Schepper. En daarom staat dat wezen ook in voortdurende verbinding met Hem en het hoeft maar te willen dat het deze verbinding ook gewaarwordt. Door de goddelijke stem, die de mens voortdurend onderricht over wat hij moet doen en laten.

Maar het is alleen van zijn wil afhankelijk of hij ernaar luistert, want God vermaant en waarschuwt wel al Zijn schepselen, maar Hij dwingt hen niet om Hem te gehoorzamen.
