Človek premalo opazuje svoje notranje življenje, ker bi drugače bolje spoznal samega sebe in svoje pomanjkljivosti ter bi se trudil, da jih odstrani. Delo na njegovi duši se začenja šele takrat, ko je spoznal, da je nepopoln, se pravi ko zavestno teži k izpopolnjevanju(popolnosti), ko se ob spoznanju svojih napak ter slabosti trudi biti plemenitejši. Njih pa je mogoče prepoznati šele takrat, ko se globoko poglobi, kar pomeni, ko svoje življenje, svoje postopke (delovanja) podredi resni kritiki....
Če je otrok sveta, potem opazuje samo zunanjost, vidi le svoj telesni ustroj in ne tega, kako je zgrajena njegova duša. In celotno njegovo razmišljanje ter hotenje (želje) je usmerjeno samo na telo in njegove potrebe, ker človeka vedno znova srečuje svet z njegovimi zahtevami, katere pa potem on marljivo izpolnjuje. Toda njegovo notranje življenje je postavljeno povsem v ozadje. On bo le malo ali nič razmišljal o tem, kakšen je njegov odnos do bližnjih, kakšno je njegovo stališče do Boga in kako bo on lahko prenašal samega sebe, če je poklican, da položi svoje račune za svoje razmišljanje in postopke (delovanja). In on zaradi tega ne bo delal na samemu sebi.
K zavestnemu delu na duši paravno tako spada tudi spoznanje samega sebe.... človek mora biti brez zadržkov samokritičen. Ne sme tolerirati (dopuščati) svojih napak in slabosti; mora imeti trdno voljo za to, da se razvija naprej; ne sme biti zadovoljen s samim seboj, temveč mora nenehno težiti k popolnosti. Toda da bi vse to dojel, mora biti prepričan v svojo malovrednost, v svojo pomanjkljivost, kar pa je šele posledica preverjanja samega sebe(samo-kritike).
Človek je največkrat iskren do samega sebe, če je sam sploh podrejen (samo)preverjanju. In šele to razmišljanje, brez stranskih vplivov, mu prinaša jasno presojo(oceno) samega sebe, čemur pa potem ravno tako sledi delo na sebi (na svoji duši), ker ni nobeden človek brez napake. Kolikor bolj se človek povleče (umakne od zunanjih vplivov), da bi se pogovarjal s samim seboj, s svojimi pregrehami in strastmi(hlepenji, poželenji), toliko prej jim on najavi vojno, ker ga notranji glas opozarja in popravlja, če je on lepripravljen slišati ta glas. Potem pa ga bo on opozoril na vsako napako. On ga bo spodbujal na zavestno delo na duši; on ga bo vedno in vedno znova usmerjal na samoprverjanje. In tako bo on postal ponižen, ker spoznava samega sebe in svoje slabosti ter se želi odreči vsakršni prevzetnosti (ponosu).
In on bo preko tovrstnega samopreverjanja znotraj (v duši) dozoreval. On se bo naučil razumeti slabosti bližnjih, ker jih ravno tako najde (vidi, spoznava) v sebi. In molil bo za moč za svojo preobrazbo, katero pa še kako spozna, da je nujna, tako da potem tudi resno dela na temu. Samopreverjanje je izjemno pomembno za oplemenitenje(izboljšanje, napredek), ker človek šele na ta način spoznava sebe in zavestno dela na sebi....

The work on his soul only begins when he recognizes his inadequacy, when he consciously strives for perfection, when he tries to ennoble himself by recognizing his faults and weaknesses. And he only realizes these when he deepens his inner self, i.e. when he subjects his life, actions and thoughts to serious criticism.... If he is a child of the world, then he only pays attention to outward appearances, he only sees his physical constitution, but not that of the soul, and all his thinking and willing is only directed towards the body and its needs, because the world constantly approaches man with its demands, which he now eagerly fulfils. And his inner life fades completely into the background. He will think little or not at all about his behaviour towards his fellow human beings, his attitude towards God and how he will stand up to himself if he is called to account for his thoughts and actions. And therefore he will not work on himself. Conscious soul work also includes recognizing his own.... man must criticize himself relentlessly, he must not overlook any faults and weaknesses, he must have the firm will to develop himself progressively, he must not be satisfied with himself but must always and constantly strive for perfection. And in order to want all this, he must be convinced of his unworthiness, of his inadequacy, but this is only the result of inner introspection. A person is usually honest with himself as soon as he subjects himself to an examination. And this inner, uninfluenced thinking first brings about a clear judgement of oneself, and this is then followed by work on oneself, because no human being is without faults. The more a person withdraws in order to dialogue with himself, with his vices and desires, the sooner he declares war on them, because the inner voice warns and admonishes him, if only he has the will to let this inner voice resound within him. Then it will draw his attention to every fault, it will spur him on to conscious soul work, it will urge him again and again to introspection, and he will become humble because he recognizes himself and his weaknesses and gives up all arrogance. And through such introspection he will mature inwardly, he will learn to understand the weaknesses of his fellow human beings because he finds them in himself, and he will ask for strength for his transformation, which he recognizes as necessary and therefore tackles seriously. The inner reflections have a very great ennobling value, because only now does the person learn to recognize himself and consciously work on himself....
