Maturing the soul in the world....

The human soul remains undeveloped in the world's activity as long as it cannot detach itself in hours of quiet contemplation or establish contact with God through eager activity of love, for which it is also given ample opportunity in the midst of the world. And yet the human being is placed in it so that he can overcome the world and find the path to God in it, because this requires increased willpower. If the human being closes himself off from the world, his merit is less, for he avoids all temptations and oppositions, he does not need to fight the battle to which the human being is exposed who does not flee from the world. The greater the oppositions, the more strength they require, but the greater the success the soul can achieve if it overcomes all oppositions. And that is why great demands are made on the human being which he should not evade. He has to fulfill his task earthly, he has to be exposed to earthly temptations, but nothing should prevent him from seeking the intimate connection with God, because from this he also draws his strength to fulfill the earthly demands. Nevertheless, he will also be able to be spiritually active if this is what his will strives for. However, if the human being neither lives in love nor finds time for inner contemplation which introduces him to the spiritual kingdom, he will remain at the same spiritual degree of maturity or even develop regressively if matter captivates him and he is devoid of all love. In that case he will live his life on earth in vain, but even seclusion would not change such a person spiritually but only make him grumpy and dissatisfied because spiritual striving is alien to him and he cannot fulfill his earthly desires. A person can make God his own in every situation in life if his heart urges him to do so, and therefore he can also serve God always and everywhere, the hustle and bustle of the world will often give him enough opportunity to serve his neighbor, while in solitude a person lives only for himself and is hindered in his work of love. The latter, however, brings man to maturity, for it brings him closer to God, and therefore every opportunity should be used to practice serving charity. In the hustle and bustle of the world there are often greater opportunities for man's development, for hardship and suffering require help, which every human being can provide for his fellow human being, and spiritual hardship is also particularly great in the midst of the world, and this is also a field of work where man can be particularly successful. And this is why God calls His servants in the midst of the world, and He presents the adversity of fellow human beings to them so that they will now work diligently, so that they will practice love and give love in the midst of the world and, in hours of inner contemplation, gain the strength to overcome all temptations and oppositions of the world, and thus can also mature in the midst of the world to the height....

Reifen der Seele im Weltgetriebe....

Im Weltgetriebe bleibt des Menschen Seele unentwickelt, sowie sie sich nicht lösen kann in Stunden stiller Besinnlichkeit oder durch eifriges Liebeswirken die Verbindung mit Gott herstellt, wozu ihr vollauf Gelegenheit geboten wird auch inmitten der Welt. Und dennoch ist der Mensch hineingestellt in diese, auf daß er die Welt überwindet und den Weg zu Gott in ihr findet, weil dies erhöhte Willenskraft erfordert. Schließt sich der Mensch ab von der Welt, so ist sein Verdienst geringer, denn er geht jeglichen Versuchungen und Widerständen aus dem Wege, er braucht den Kampf nicht zu kämpfen, dem der Mensch ausgesetzt ist, der dem Weltgetriebe nicht entflieht. Je größer die Widerstände, desto mehr Kraft erfordern sie, doch desto größer ist auch der Erfolg, den die Seele verbuchen kann, wenn sie alle Widerstände überwindet. Und darum werden an den Menschen große Anforderungen gestellt, denen er sich nicht entziehen soll. Er muß irdisch seine Aufgabe erfüllen, er muß irdischen Versuchungen ausgesetzt sein, doch nichts soll ihn abhalten, die innige Verbindung mit Gott zu suchen, denn aus dieser beziehet er auch seine Kraft, um die irdischen Anforderungen zu erfüllen. Er wird dennoch auch geistig tätig sein können, wenn dies sein Wille anstrebt. So aber der Mensch weder in der Liebe lebt noch Zeit findet zu innerlichen Betrachtungen, die ihn in das geistige Reich einführen, so wird er im gleichen seelischen Reifegrad stehen bleiben oder auch sich rückschrittlich entwickeln, so die Materie ihn fesselt und er bar jeder Liebe ist. Dann lebt er sein Leben auf Erden vergeblich, doch auch die Zurückgezogenheit würde einen solchen Menschen geistig nicht wandeln, sondern ihn nur mürrisch und unzufrieden machen, weil ihm geistiges Streben fremd ist und er sein irdisches Verlangen nicht erfüllen kann. Es kann der Mensch sich Gott zu eigen geben in jeder Lebenslage, so sein Herz ihn dazu drängt, und also kann er auch Gott dienen stets und überall, das Weltgetriebe wird ihm oft genug Gelegenheit dazu geben, sich dienend am Nächsten zu betätigen, während der Mensch in der Einsamkeit nur (für = d. Hg.) sich allein lebt und im Liebeswirken gehindert ist. Letzteres aber bringt den Menschen zum Reifen, denn es bringt ihn Gott näher, und darum soll eine jede Gelegenheit genützet werden, dienende Nächstenliebe zu üben. Im Treiben der Welt sind oft größere Entwicklungsmöglichkeiten für den Menschen erkennbar, denn die Nöte und Leiden erfordern Hilfe, die jeder Mensch dem Mitmenschen leisten kann, und auch die geistige Not ist inmitten der Welt besonders groß, und auch dies ist ein Arbeitsfeld, wo der Mensch besonders erfolgreich tätig sein kann. Und darum berufet Gott inmitten der Welt Seine Diener, und Er stellt ihnen die Not der Mitmenschen vor, auf daß sie nun emsig wirken, auf daß sie inmitten der Welt Liebe üben und Liebe geben und in Stunden innerer Betrachtung sich die Kraft holen, alle Versuchungen und Widerstände der Welt zu überwinden, und also auch inmitten der Welt reifen können zur Höhe....
