Acceptance and understanding of the doctrine of salvation....

It remains a futile endeavour to try to make the meaning of the work of redemption clear to the world, for anyone who desires the world and only gives it his attention, his thoughts and desires, will never have an understanding of anything spiritual. The work of redemption, however, is a purely spiritual matter, for it only touches the life of the human soul. The worldly man, however, has little regard for the life of his soul, he only has the well-being of his body in mind and all his endeavours are only aimed at increasing earthly goods and earthly pleasures. Trying to make him understand the value and meaning of the work of redemption is unsuccessful because he lives without faith. Worldly life and spiritual endeavour are completely separate. Worldly endeavour is the will turned towards God's adversary, spiritual endeavour testifies to the desire for God. The adversary of God will never lead his followers to the divine saviour, rather he will do everything to keep the knowledge of the work of redemption away from them, thus influencing them to reject it. Only when a person learns to despise the world and its goods does he occupy his thoughts with the divine redeemer and come closer to the question of God's incarnation. And it will always be faith in Jesus Christ where the world has lost its appeal, where it appears to man as a vain dazzle and is therefore despised. For the thought of redemption can only take hold in the human heart when this heart is free from earthly desires, when it seriously concerns itself with spiritual things, when the state of the soul worries the person, when he therefore wants to bring help to the soul. Only then does the meaning of the work of redemption become understandable to him, only then does he want to make use of the grace of the work of redemption, and he now consciously seeks contact with the divine saviour, presents all his sins to Him, asks Him for forgiveness of his guilt and commends himself to Him and His grace. Then he has turned away from God's adversary and his will consciously strives towards the divine saviour and redeemer....

구원의 교리를 받아들이고 이해하라.

구속역사의 의미를 세상에 분명하게 밝혀주려는 일은 성공할 확률이 없는 일을 시작하는 것이다. 왜냐하면 세상을 갈망하고, 그의 관심과 그의 생각과 그가 추구하는 일이 단지 세상을 향하는 사람은 영적인 것을 결코 이해하지 못하기 때문이다. 그러나 구속사역은 순전히 영적인 일이다. 왜냐하면 구속사역은 인간의 혼에만 영향을 미치기 때문이다. 그러나 세상 사람은 자신의 혼의 생명에 대해 적게 관심을 기울인다. 그는 단지 육체의 안녕에만 관심을 두고, 그가 추구하는 모든 일은 단지 이 땅의 재물과 이 땅의 즐거움을 증가시키기 위한 일이다.

그에게 구속 사역의 가치와 의미를 이해할 수 있게 해주려는 시도는 실패한다. 왜냐하면 그가 믿음이 없이 살기 때문이다. 세상적인 삶과 영적인 노력은 완전히 분리되어 있다. 세상을 추구하는 일은 하나님의 대적자를 향하는 의지이고, 영적인 추구는 하나님을 향한 갈망을 증거한다. 하나님의 대적자는 절대로 자신의 추종자들을 하나님의 구세주에게 인도하지 않을 것이다. 그는 오히려 구속사역에 대해 알지 못하도록, 즉 그들에게 영향을 미쳐, 구속사역을 거부하게 하기 위해 모든 일을 할 것이다. 사람이 세상과 세상의 재물을 경시하는 법을 배울 때, 그는 하나님의 구세주에 대해 생각하고, 하나님의 성육신 문제에 접근한다.

세상에 대한 매력을 잃어버린 곳에, 세상이 사람들에게 헛된 망상으로 보이고, 따라서 경멸을 받는 곳에, 예수 그리스도를 믿는 신앙이 항상 있을 것이다. 심장이 이 땅의 욕망으로부터 자유롭게 될 때, 심장이 영적인 일에 대해 진지하게 관심을 가질 때, 혼의 상태가 사람을 걱정하게 만들어, 혼에게 도움을 주기를 원하게 될 때, 비로소 구원에 대한 생각이 사람의 심장 안에 자리를 잡게 될 것이다.

그러면 그가 비로소 구속사역의 의미를 이해할 수 있게 된다. 그러면 그는 구속사역의 은혜를 활용하기를 원하고, 이제 의식적으로 하나님의 구세주와 연결을 구하고, 자신의 모든 죄를 구세주 앞에 드리고, 그에게 죄에 대한 용서를 구하고, 자신을 그와 그의 은혜에 의탁한다. 그러면 그는 하나님의 반대자에게서 돌아섰고, 그의 의지는 의식적으로 하나님의 구세주 주님을 추구한다.
