Influence of matter on humans....

Directed matter exerts great influence on the human being insofar as the spiritual bound in it urges him to unite with it, which therefore has the effect of the human being's desire for its possession. The spiritual bound in matter pushes itself into the human being's love.... it seeks to make itself indispensable to him, it strives to unite with the human being because it thereby feels stronger in its resistance against God. For it also senses the resistance the human being still has against God, or it pushes towards people who still resist God in their immaturity. And these people are also easily influenced. They themselves have the greatest desire for matter, and thus like-minded things come together which are only on different levels of development. But the human being is in danger of sinking from his already higher level of development if he chains himself to matter, which is why he cannot be warned enough to strive for matter and is constantly admonished to overcome it. The spiritual in matter can indeed also be willing to serve and help the human being in his ascent development, just as conversely the human being can help the spiritual bound in matter to ascend. But then it concerns objects of use which do not kindle the human being's greed for possession, thus do not awaken the wrong love in the human being for material possessions. As soon as matter serves the human being the resistance against God is already broken; but matter which does not fulfil a serving purpose will often awaken an increased desire in the human being to possess it, and it is this matter which is regarded as a danger for the human being's soul, for its influence on the soul is great and can have such an effect that the soul itself sinks to the stage where it is embodied in matter again. Then the bound spiritual has achieved what it wanted.... it has drawn the free spiritual down to itself and, as it were, strengthened its own power.... the human being has fallen prey to the influence of God's adversary, who has influenced his will to use it in the wrong direction, who constantly presents dead matter to him in order to persuade him to relapse, because thereby he increases his kingdom, his power and violence and it stimulates the God-hostile beings into constant resistance. What turns towards God is lost to him, and this he tries to thwart with all means. Matter itself, i.e. the spiritual bound in it, is still in bondage to him in its immaturity, although God's adversary cannot have a determining effect on the spiritual. But since the spiritual itself has not given up its resistance to God, it also pushes towards people who are in the same resistance, who are pointed to matter by God's adversary, to whom he puts matter before the eye as a lure of the world. The human being can evade this influence or resist it with his will, yet he often uses the freedom of his will wrongly and gives in to the urge of the enemy of his soul. For this reason the battle against matter is the actual battle the human being should wage in earthly life, for once he has overcome it his ascent is also assured, because then there will be nothing holding him back on earth and then his soul can soar into spiritual spheres, because then nothing will hinder its flight upwards and thus there will no longer be any danger, and at the same time the human being then helps the spiritual substance in matter to ascend, which he uses, and thereby helps it to be of service, whereby the spiritual substance in matter can release itself from every form until it has finally also reached the last stage and can serve as a human being in free will....

사람을 향한 물질의 영향.

심판을 받은 물질은 그 안에 묶임을 받은 영적인 존재가 사람이 자신과 연합하도록 촉구하는 큰 영향을 사람에게 미친다. 즉 사람이 물질을 소유하려는 욕망을 갖게 한다. 물질 안에 묶임을 받은 영적인 존재는 인간의 사랑의 대상이 되려고 노력하고, 인간에게 자신이 없어서는 안될 존재가 되려고 시도하고, 인간과 연합하기 위해 시도한다. 왜냐면 영적인 존재가 이를 통해 하나님을 향한 저항하는 일에서 자신을 더 강하게 느끼고 또한 아직 인간 안에 있는 하나님을 대적하는 저항을 느끼기 때문이다. 또는 어떤 의미에서 성숙하지 못한 상태에서 아직 하나님을 대적하는 사람들에게 영적인 존재가 향하기 때문이다. 이런 사람들은 쉽게 영향을 받고, 그들 자신이 물질을 가장 크게 갈망한다. 그러므로 단지 서로 다른 성장 단계에 있는 같은 영적인 존재들과 연합한다.

그러나 인간이 자신을 물질에 묶어 두면, 그는 이미 이룬 더 높은 성장 단계에서 퇴보할 위험에 처한다. 그러므로 물질을 추구하는 일에 대해 아무리 경고해도 충분할 수 없고 물질을 극복하도록 끊임없이 경고해야 한다. 물질 안의 영적인 존재는 또한 사람이 위로 성장하는 과정에서 자원하여 봉사하고 도울 수 있다. 이와 반대로 사람이 물질 안에 묶임을 받은 영적인 존재가 성장할 수 있도록 도울 수 있다. 그러나 이런 일을 사람들이 소유하려는 탐욕을 불러 일으키지 않고 사용할 수 있는 물건을 통해 할 수 있다. 즉 사람들의 물질을 소유하려는 잘못된 사랑을 깨어나게 하지 않는 물건을 통해 할 수 있다.

물질이 사람을 섬기면, 하나님을 향한 저항은 이미 꺾인다. 그러나 섬기는 목적을 달성하지 못하는 물질은 자주 사람 안에 이를 소유하려는 욕구를 증가시킬 것이다. 이런 물질은 혼에 위험이 된다. 왜냐면 물질이 혼에 미치는 영향이 크고, 혼 자신이 다시 물질 안으로 육신을 입는 단계로 퇴보하게 할 수 있기 때문이다. 그러면 묶임을 받은 영적인 존재는 자신이 원했던 일을 달성한다. 묶임을 받은 영적인 존재가 자유로운 영적인 존재를 자신에게 끌어드려, 어느 정도 자신의 힘을 강하게 하고, 인간은 인간의 의지를 잘못된 방향으로 사용하도록, 인간의 의지에 영향을 미치고, 인간이 다시 퇴보하도록 만들기 위해 끊임없이 죽은 물질을 인간에게 제시하는 하나님의 대적자의 영향에 희생이 된다. 왜냐면 이런 일을 통해 하나님의 대적자는 자신의 나라와 자신의 권세와 권력을 증가시키고, 하나님께 대항하는 존재들이 항상 저항을 하도록 자극하기 때문이다.

하나님께 향하는 존재는 하나님의 대적자에게 잃은 존재이다. 하나님의 대적자는 모든 수단을 동원해 존재를 잃게 되는 일을 막으려 고 한다. 비록 하나님의 대적자가 물질 자체에게, 즉 물질 안에 묶임을 받은 영적인 존재에게 영적인 일에 관해 결정적인 영향을 미칠 수 없을지라도, 영적인 존재가 자신의 아직 성숙하지 못한 상태로 하나님의 대적자에게 복종한다. 영적인 존재 자신이 하나님에 대한 저항을 포기하지 않았기 때문에, 영적인 존재가 자기와 같은 상태에 있는 사람들을 공격하고, 유혹하는 수단으로 세상의 물질을 사람들의 눈 앞에 제시하는 하나님의 대적자에 의해 물질을 향하도록 주의를 받는 사람들을 공격한다. 사람은 이런 영향을 벗어나거나 또는 자신의 의지로 하나님의 대적자에게 저항할 수 있다. 그러나 그는 자주 의지의 자유를 잘못된 방식으로 사용하고 그의 혼의 원수의 충동질에 굴복한다.

그러므로 물질에 대항하는 싸움은 인간이 이 땅의 삶에서 벌여야 할 실제 싸움이다. 왜냐면 인간이 물질을 극복했다면, 그의 성장이 또한 보장되기 때문이다. 왜냐면 그러면 그를 이 땅에 묶어둘 것이 전혀 없기 때문이다. 그러면 그의 혼은 영의 영역으로 올라갈 수 있다. 왜냐면 혼이 높은 곳을 향한 비행 중에 어떤 것에 의해서도 방해를 받지 않기 때문이다. 그러므로 혼이 이미 오래전에 극복한 단계로 다시 떨어질 위험이 더 이상 없고, 인간이 동시에 물질 안의 영적인 존재의 영적인 성장을 돕고, 섬기는 일을 하도록 도움을 준다. 영적인 존재는 이런 도움을 활용하고, 이를 통해 물질 안의 영적인 존재는 최종적으로 마지막 단계에 도달하여 자유의지를 가진 인간이 되기까지 모든 형체로부터 자신을 자유롭게 할 수 있다.
