Torments of the soul in the afterlife.... desire for earthly good....

The desperate situation of a person whose only desire is for the world and its goods only becomes clear to him after his death. For what he now desires is unattainable for him, and yet the desire for it torments him unimaginably. The greed for it is far greater than on earth, precisely because it remains unfulfilled. He has no desire for spiritual possessions, he only endeavours to attain what seemed desirable to him in earthly life and conjures up all these things in his thoughts. Such covetous thoughts are now also fulfilled, i.e., everything he desires is there, however, no longer tangible but only in his imagination, so that his greed rises to the highest and yet always remains unfulfilled. These are true tantalus torments until he becomes aware of his desperate state and overcomes his desire, i.e. until he realizes that he is chasing after phantoms that remain eternally unattainable. Only then does he begin to think about the hopelessness of his state and to consider the possibilities of a change, and he now also finds support from the beings from the kingdom of light, who first need that state in order to be able to intervene helpfully. But the desperate situation of a soul can last for endless times until it finally comes to recognize it. And as long as it is close to earth it cannot detach itself from its familiar surroundings and therefore often transfers its own desires onto weak-willed people of the same disposition. It tries to stimulate them to do what it considers to be the only desirable thing. And therefore it cannot be emphasized enough that prayer for such souls is a help to them in their agonizing situation, as it weakens their desire for earthly possessions and at the same time the soul feels the strength of such prayer, as it begins to reflect and can thus take the first step into the spiritual kingdom. The prayer for the deceased should always apply to their still weak will and thereby give them the strength to strengthen this will so that it demands to rise....

I tormenti dell’anima nell’aldilà – Il desiderio per il bene terreno

In quale situazione disperata si trova l’uomo, il cui desiderio era soltanto per il mondo ed i suoi beni, gli verrà comprensibile soltanto dopo il suo decesso. Perché ciò che ora desidera è per lui irraggiungibile, ma il desiderio per questo lo tormenta inimmaginabilmente. La brama è molto maggiore che sulla Terra, appunto perché gli rimane inesaudita. Non ha nessun desiderio per il bene spirituale, tende soltanto a conquistarsi ciò che gli sembrava desiderabile nella vita terrena e richiama tutte queste cose nei pensieri. Ora tali pensieri di desideri gli vengono anche adempiuti, cioè c’è tutto ciò che desidera, ma non afferrabile, è solo nella sua immaginazione, in modo che la sua brama sale al massimo e rimane comunque sempre inadempiuta. Questi sono dei veri supplizi di Tantalo finché si rende conto del suo stato disperato e supera il suo desiderare, cioè finché riconosce, che insegue dei fantasmi, che rimangono eternamente irraggiungibili. Solo allora comincia a riflettere sul suo stato senza speranza e di considerare la possibilità di un cambiamento, ed ora trova anche il sostegno di esseri dal Regno di Luce, che hanno bisogno di quello stato prima di poter intervenire aiutando. Ma la situazione disperata di un’anima può durare tempi infiniti, finché giungono finalmente alla conoscenza. E fino ad allora si trova anche vicino alla Terra, non riesce staccarsi dal suo noto ambiente, e perciò trasferisce sovente le proprie brame su uomini di debole volontà con la stessa predisposizione d’animo. Lei cerca di stimolare questi alla stessa cosa che a lei sembra l’unica desiderabile. E perciò non si può indicare mai abbastanza alla preghiera per tali anime, affinché trovino aiuto nella situazione tormentosa, mentre fanno diventare più debole il desiderio per il bene terreno e l’anima percepisca contemporaneamente la forza di una tale preghiera, mentre ora diventa riflessiva e così fa il primo passo nel Regno spirituale. La preghiera deve sempre essere per la debole volontà dei defunti e da ciò essere rivolta a loro la forza di rafforzare questa volontà, affinché giungano in Alto.
