Menswording – Wereldse vreugden – Zelfverlossing

De kracht van de mens werd eindeloos groter en zijn wil werd machtig, want de macht van de liefde kreeg de overhand over het kwaad. En wie nu in de liefde leeft, kan zich deze macht zo eigen maken dat het aardse bestaan volledig voldoende is om als gezuiverd wezen na de lichamelijke dood het gebied van de eeuwige zaligheid binnen te gaan. Alleen de wil van de mensen bleef onaantastbaar en de tegenstander probeert nu deze wil tot het uiterste te beïnvloeden, opdat de drang naar liefde zwakker wordt en daarmee de zelfverlossing door de liefde in twijfel getrokken wordt. Slechts het voortdurende streven om volgens de wil van God te leven stelt paal en perk aan de inspanning van de tegenstander. Waar de wil zich ernstig op God richt, daar heeft de tegenstander alle macht verloren. Hij probeert weliswaar telkens weer de mensen ten val te brengen, maar deze pogingen zijn zonder succes omdat de liefde voor God alles overheerst.

Zo was de menswording van Christus de overwinning op het kwaad. De macht van de tegenstander was gebroken en de kracht van de wezens op aarde die lief wilden hebben, was in dezelfde mate gestegen en een opstijgen naar God werd nu voor alle geestelijke wezens gewaarborgd. De demonen van het heelal proberen nu met alle list de zielen te bemachtigen en alle begeerten die verderf brengen op te wekken of te versterken, want deze verzwakken weer de wil, die anders sterk is en in staat om tegenstand te bieden. Daarom is ieder aards verlangen een hindernis voor de definitieve hereniging met God, want de wil wendt zich dan niet geheel en al naar de eeuwige Godheid toe, maar wordt gedeeld en zal zich geleidelijk steeds meer naar de wereld neigen, omdat de wil van de mensen steeds zwakker wordt en de verlokkingen van de zijde van het kwaad in gelijke mate sterker.

Op zich is het verlangen naar de wereld geen zonde zolang er niet in strijd met geboden van God gehandeld wordt, maar het afzien van alle wereldse vreugden is als het ware de ladder naar boven, want dan wisselt de mens deze om voor de goddelijke genade. Het lichaam geeft gewillig de vreugden van de wereld op, waarvoor de ziel echter onnoemelijk rijk bedacht wordt met kracht en genade voor haar eigenlijke bestemming. En de ziel voelt zich in deze toestand, waar ze zich in lichte sferen ophoudt, goed, terwijl het lichaam geleidelijk de hang naar de wereld volledig verliest en het offer voor het lichaam steeds makkelijker te dragen is, naarmate de toestand van de ziel volmaakter is.

Maar waar de mensen op aarde, die niet in de genade van God leven, naar streven, is alleen maar schijn en bedrog. Alles vloeit weg en vergaat als schuim. Het verschaft het lichaam slechts voor de tijd op aarde welbehagen, maar brengt de ziel in de gebrekkigste toestand. Dan heeft de mens zijn leven op aarde volledig nutteloos geleefd, niet denkend aan de taak die hij te vervullen had. Dan is dus ook het verlossingswerk, de menswording van God, zonder enige zegen voor zo’n mensenkind gebleven. De brug, die de Heiland naar de mensheid geslagen heeft, wordt door zulke mensen niet betreden. Zij gaan voort op de weg van de duisternis, die de mensen eerst op een dwaalspoor bracht, en zien niet de lichtvolle weg, die de liefde van God voor de mensenkinderen begaanbaar gemaakt heeft. Deze weg is wel smal en een weg van zelfverloochening en stelt hoge eisen aan de ziel, maar hij voert beslist naar het doel. Hij vormt de mens van de wereld tot kind van God, dat zich eindelijk verenigt met de hemelse Vader en zo de weg naar huis vindt, het huis van de Vader._>Amen

Incarnation.... worldly pleasures.... self-redemption....

Man's strength became infinitely greater and his will became powerful, for the power of love gained the upper hand over evil, and anyone who now lives in love can acquire this power such that his life on earth is fully sufficient in order to enter the realms of eternal bliss as a purified being after bodily death. Only the will of man remained inviolable, and the opposing power now tries to influence this will to the utmost, so that the inclination to love is weakened and thus the self-redemption through love is questioned. Only the uninterrupted endeavour to live in God's will is able to withstand the adversary's efforts. Where the will seriously turns to God, the opposing power has lost all power.... it tries again and again to bring man down, but these attempts are ineffective because love for God outweighs everything. Thus the incarnation of Christ was the victory over evil.... the power of the adversary was broken and the strength of the earthly being willing to love increased to the same extent, and an ascent to God was now assured for all spiritual beings.... The demons of the universe now seek to seize souls with all cunning and to awaken or strengthen all desires that are corrupting, for these again weaken the will, which is otherwise strong and resistant. This is why every worldly desire is an obstacle to the final reunion with God, for then the will will not turn fully and completely towards the eternal deity, but will be divided and gradually lean more and more towards the world, because the human being's will becomes weaker and weaker and the temptations from the side of evil become stronger and stronger to the same extent. In itself, the desire for the world is not a sin as long as it is not contrary to God's commandments, but the renunciation of all worldly pleasures is, as it were, the ladder upwards, because man then exchanges divine grace for them. The body willingly gives up the pleasures of the world, but the soul is unspeakably richly endowed with strength and grace for its actual purpose. And the soul feels comfortable in this state, which lets it dwell in spheres of light, whereas the body gradually loses its inclination towards the world completely and the more perfect the state of the soul is, the easier it is to bear the sacrifice of the body. But what people strive for on earth, who do not live in God's grace, is only appearance and deception, everything melts away and passes like foam, only creating a sense of well-being for the body for the time on earth but leaving the soul in the poorest state.... The human being has then lived his earthly life completely uselessly, not remembering the task he had to fulfil. And thus the work of redemption, the incarnation of God, remained without any blessing for such an earthly child.... the bridge the saviour had built to humanity was not entered by them. They continue to walk on the path of darkness, which previously led people astray, and do not see the light-filled path that God's love has made accessible to the children of earth.... This path may be narrow and a path of renunciation, self-denial and the highest spiritual demands, but it inevitably leads to the goal.... It moulds the earthly human being into a child of God who finally unites with the heavenly father and thus finds his way home to the father's house....
