살인하지 말라.

세상적으로 슬기로운 사람이 다른 사람에게 하나님의 영적인 것을 가르쳐주는 일은 항상 슬기로운 일이 아니다. 세상 사람들이 판단하는 것과 하나님이 판단하는 것에는 차이가 있다. 세상 사람들은 세상 사람들에게 얼마나 유익이 있는 가로 세상적인 슬기로움을 판단한다. 그러나 이런 판단이 하나님의 뜻에 합당한지는 생각하지 않는다. 많은 권세를 가지고 연약한 자 앞에서 자신을 높이는 일과 약한 자를 압제하고 그의 자유를 빼앗는 일이 절대로 하나님의 뜻이 될 수 없다.

하나님은 모든 사람에게 같은 권한을 갖도록 창조하셨다. 연약한 자를 압제하면서 자신의 강함을 잘못 사용할 수 있는 권한을 강자에게 절대로 주지 않았다. 그러나 사람의 의지는 자유하다. 악한 의지의 결과가 하나님께 인도해서 피해자에게 다시 축복이 되게 할 수 있고 되게 할 것이다. 이로써 마지막에 가서는 끔찍한 행동도 양육하는 효력을 나타낼 수 있고 혼의 성장을 도울 수 있다. 그러나 마찬가지로 당하는 사람인 연약한 자의 의지가 똑 같이 악할 경우에는 부정적인 결과를 가져올 수 있다.

너희는 살인하지 말라. 이 계명이 너희에게 주어졌다. 너희는 언제든지 이 계명에 주의해야 한다. 모든 사람이 생명을 보호하라는 계명을 지켜야 할 의무가 있다. 그러므로 또한 자신의 생명이나 다른 사람의 생명을 방어해야 할 권리가 있다. 왜냐면 하나님의 계명을 어기며 자신의 강함을 잘못 사용하고 인간의 권리를 침해하며 스스로 하나님의 대적자가 된 자의 의지를 분명하게 따르는 죄를 짓는 사람들이 항상 있기 때문이다. 하나님의 뜻은 이에는 이, 눈에는 눈으로 갚아주는 것이 사람이 악한 것을 악한 것으로 갚아주는 것이 아니다. 왜냐면 모든 미움은 대항해야만 하기 때문이다. 만약에 사람이 하나님께 자신을 용서해 주기를 구하면, 그는 또한 원수도 용서해야 한다.

그러나 인간의 생명은 하나님의 선물이고 이를 보호해줄 능력이 있는 모든 사람은 보호해야 한다. 왜냐면 그의 혼의 성장을 위해 생명이 주어졌기 때문에 가볍게 생명을 버려서는 안 되기 때문이다. 사람은 자신의 생명을 보호할 수 있다. 위험 가운데 자기방어를 했을 경우 그에게 책임을 묻지 않을 것이다. 그가 다른 사람의 생명을 보호할 수 있었는데 보호하지 않았다면, 그에게 이에 대한 책임을 묻게 될 것이다. 그는 마치 자기가 상대방을 죽인 것과 같은 그의 죽음에 대한 같은 죄를 진 것이다. 왜냐면 너희는 살인하지 말라는 이 계명에는 이웃의 생명을 보호하라는 뜻이 포함되어 있기 때문이다. 이는 너희가 지켜야만 할 계명이고 단순히 이웃을 사랑하라는 계명이고 만약에 너희에게 생명을 지킬 능력이 주어졌다면, 항상 이 계명을 지켜야만 한다.

그러나 세상에는 개념의 혼동이 있다. 권세에 대한 욕망과 정치적 이익과 원수 맺는 일과 사랑이 없는 일이 하나님의 질서를 무너뜨리는 법규를 만들었다. 하나님의 계명은 주의를 받지 못하고 있고 사람들이 잘못 된 명예에 대한 개념을 가지고 있다. 모든 것이 하나님의 질서 밖에서 거하게 되었고 정의라는 가면 아래 서로 간에 파괴하려는 생각과 또는 상대방을 약하게 만들려는 생각이 만연해 있다.

사람에 의해 만들어진 법률이 하나님의 계명을 지키지 못하도록 강요하고 이웃의 생명이 어느 누구에게도 거룩하지 않다. 그들은 정당한 권리가 없는 이런 요구에 강요에 의해 굴복하거나 또는 자유의지로 굴복한다. 사람들은 자신의 생명뿐만 아니라 다른 사람의 생명을 가볍게 대한다. 사람들은 자신을 쉽게 위험에 처하게 하고 다른 사람의 생명을 가지고 놀이를 한다. 그들은 혼을 위한 생명의 가치를 모른다. 그러므로 그들은 사람들에 대항하여 전투에 나갈 준비가 되어있다. 이는 인간의 생명을 지키기 위한 일이 아니고 세상적이고 물질적인 목표를 이루기 위한 일이고 그러므로 하나님이 원하는 일이 될 수 없다.

귀중한 생명을 지키기 위한 생각은 가장 적은 수의 사람들에게서 찾아볼 수 있다. 반면에 세상 유익과 세상의 유리한 효과에 대한 생각들이 지배한다. 너희는 살인하지 말라는 계명을 생각할 것 없이 버렸거나 또는 단지 다른 목표를 이루기 위해 사용하고 있다. 그러나 너희는 살인하지 말라는 계명은 하나님의 말씀으로 남을 것이다. 자신이나 다른 사람에게 위험이 되지 않은데도 자유의지로 다른 사람의 생명을 빼앗았을 경우 그가 이 계명을 어긴 것이다. 그는 이에 대한 책임을 져야만 하고 하나님은 공의와 의로 심판할 것이다.

"Thou shalt not kill...."

Those who are wise in the world are not always so when it comes to instructing other people in the divine-spiritual.... There is a difference between how worldly people judge and how God judges, and for the most part worldly prudence will judge in a way that is beneficial for worldly people.... But they do not consider whether this also corresponds to divine will. It can never be in the will of God that the powerful should rise above the powerless, that it should oppress the weak and deprive it of its freedom. God created all people with equal rights and never gave the strong the right to abuse his strength in such a way that he subjugates the weak.... But people's will is free, and the effect of a bad will can and will be directed by God in such a way that it is a blessing for the person concerned.... so that in the end even detestable deeds can have an educational effect and promote the maturing of the soul.... but they can also have a negative effect if the will of the weak person affected is also bad.... Thou shalt not kill.... This commandment was given to you, and you should observe it at all times.... But every human being also has the duty.... to follow this same commandment.... to protect life.... thus also the right to defend oneself or the lives of others, because there will always be people who sin against God's commandments, who abuse their strength, who do not observe human rights and are obviously at the will of the one who is himself an enemy of God.... It is not God's will that an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth should be repaid, that man should repay evil with evil.... For all hatred is to be fought, and man is also to forgive his enemy, if he himself demands forgiveness from God.... But the life of a human being is also a gift from God which should be defended by everyone who is able to do so, because life is given to him for the maturing of the soul and therefore may not be given away lightly.... He is allowed to protect his own life.... he is therefore not held responsible in the case of self-defence.... but he is held responsible if he did not protect the life of others that he could protect.... For then he is just as guilty of their deaths as if he had killed them himself, for the commandment "Thou shalt not kill...." also includes the care for the life of the neighbour, it is simply a commandment of neighbourly love which must be fulfilled.... always provided that man is capable of protecting the life of his neighbour.... However, in the world the terms have become confused.... Hunger for power, political interests, hostility and unkindness have created laws which overturn the divine order.... Divine commandments remain unheeded, people have been taught false concepts of honour, everything is outside the divine order, and the idea of mutual destruction or weakening can be found everywhere, but hides under the cloak of justice.... Laws enacted by people force them to disregard the divine command.... and no human being holds the life of his neighbour sacred.... They submit to unjust demands, partly forced, partly voluntary; they are careless both with their own lives and with the lives of their neighbour.... They recklessly put themselves in danger and gamble with the lives of others.... They do not know the value of life for the soul.... And that is why they are also prepared to take up arms against their fellow human beings and are not only concerned with defending human life but also with achieving other aims which are always earthly-material and therefore cannot be divinely-willed. The thought of defending valuable life is only found in very few people.... whereas the thought of earthly advantages or favourable effects is predominant.... And the commandment "Thou shalt not kill...." is unhesitatingly rejected or even invoked only for the purpose of achieving other aims.... But there remains this commandment as a divine word: Thou shalt not kill.... And whoever ends the life of a fellow human being in free will, without danger to himself or others, commits an offence against this commandment, and he will have to answer for it.... And God will judge according to law and justice....
