혼과 육체가 영과 하나가 되는 일.

너희가 내면의 음성을 들을 수 있게 되는 일은 혼과 육체를 위해 큰 의미가 있다. 그러므로 혼과 육체에 주의를 기울여야 한다. 즉 혼과 사람의 사고와 느낌과 의지가 내면의 음성을 통해 자극받아야 하고, 또한 육체가 혼이 이제 생각하고 느끼고 원하는 것을 성취하는 것을 따르게 해야 한다. 육체는 혼이 표현할지라도 저항할 수 있다. 사람이 자신이 다르게 행동해야 한다고 내적으로 확신할지라도, 몸에 유익하지만 혼에 해를 끼치는 일을 아직 수행할 수 있다. 그러면 올바른 것에 대한 깨달음이 실제 존재하지만, 의지가 너무 약해 행할 수 없다. 의지는 혼에 속하지만, 그러나 의지는 몸이 하는 일에 결정적이다.

의지가 이제 충분하게 강하면, 의지는 육체가 혼에게 유익이 되는 행동을 하도록 정한다. 그러면 혼은 육체를 어느 정도 영의 나라로 끌어 들이고, 혼은 더 이상 물질적인 생각을 하지 않는다. 비록 인간이 아직 이 땅에 살고, 계속해서 물질과 싸워 이겨야 하지만, 세상을 향한 갈망이 더 이상 주도권을 잡지 못한다. 그러나 사람 안의 영이 혼을 아주 강력하게 끌어당기고, 일단 혼의 의지를 통해 육체가 세상을 추구하지 못하도록 막는 데 성공하면, 혼이 한번 육체의 욕망을 약화시키고, 혼에게 향하게 하는 일에 성공하면, 육체가 항상 점점 더 세상으로부터 멀어진다. 즉 비록 육체가 옛 환경 속에 거하지만, 그러나 그의 갈망이 단지 약해지고, 결국에는 혼이 그에게 전해주는 것을 단지 인정한다.

육체도 또한 영의 나라에 거하는 가운데 자신의 만족을 얻을 것이다. 혼과 육체가 영과 하나가 되는 일은 이전에 혼이 아직 육체와 씨름해야 했던 때보다, 즉 세상의 안락함에 저항할 수 있기 위한 혼의 의지가 너무 연약했던 때 보다 그리고 세상 재물을 추구하는 일이 지배적이었던 때보다 훨씬 쉽게 이루어질 수 있다. 하지만 이 싸움은 계속돼야만 한다. 그렇지 않으면 사람 안의 영의 음성을 들을 수 없게 되고, 인간도 영의 세밀한 음성을 들을 수 없게 된다.

그러므로 너희 사람들에게 계속하여 긴급하게 경고를 해준다: 가능한 한 최대한으로 세상 일에 주의를 기울이지 말라. 생명의 원천에서 얻으라. 세상이 제공할 수 있는 기쁨과 쾌락보다 훨씬 더 많은 것을 줄 수 있는 너희 안의 영이 말하게 하라. 너희의 모든 생각과 느낌과 의지를, 너희에게 가능한 한, 자주 영의 나라로 향하게 하라. 너희의 시선을 위로 향한 가운데 이 땅의 일을 수행하라. 너희 생각이 자주 위로 향하게 하라. 하나님을 부르고, 너희 자신을 하나님의 사랑과 은혜에 의탁하라. 그러면 너희가 추구하는 일은 항상 더 영적이 될 것이다. 세상의 것은 단지 육체를 유지하기 위해 절대적으로 필요한 정도로 너희에게 영향을 미칠 것이다. 너희 혼의 깨달음은 성숙해질 것이다. 너희의 내면이 빛으로 충만하게 될 것이고, 너희 심장 안으로 하늘의 평화가 임할 것이다. 왜냐면 너희가 세상을 극복했기 때문이다.

Unification of the soul and the body with the spirit....

What you are able to hear through the inner voice is significant for soul and body and should therefore be heeded by both, i.e. the soul, the human being's thinking, feeling and wanting, should be stimulated by it and the body should also be determined to comply with what the soul now thinks, feels and wants. Despite the soul's idea, the body can still resist; even though the human being is inwardly convinced that he has to act differently, he can still do what is beneficial for the body but harmful for the soul, then the recognition of what is right is certainly present but the will is too weak to turn it into action. The will belongs to the soul, but the will is decisive for the actions of the body. If the will is now strong enough then it determines the body to actions which are beneficial for the soul, then the soul pulls the body into the spiritual kingdom, so to speak, it is no longer materially minded, i.e., earthly desires no longer have the upper hand, although the human being still lives on earth and again and again has to fight the battle with it. Yet the spirit in the human being pulls the soul mightily, and once it has succeeded by virtue of its will in restraining the body from its striving for the world, once it has succeeded in weakening bodily desire and making it inclined towards the soul, then the body will always distance itself more and more from the earthly, i.e. it will certainly still dwell in the old environment but its desire will only have become weaker and finally only apply to what the soul imparts to it. The body, too, will find satisfaction in dwelling in the spiritual kingdom, and the unification of the soul and the body with the spirit can now take place much more easily than before, when the soul still had to struggle with the body, i.e. when its will was still too weak to resist the comforts of the world and the striving for earthly good was predominant. Yet this battle has to go ahead, otherwise the spirit in the human being will not be able to make itself heard, otherwise the human being will not be able to hear the subtle voice of the spirit either.... And therefore the urgent admonition constantly goes out to you humans: Disregard the worldly as much as possible, draw from the source of life, let the spirit within you speak, which is able to give you far more than the world can offer you in pleasures and enjoyments. Direct all your thoughts, feelings and intentions towards the spiritual kingdom as often as you are able to do so, also carry out earthly activities with your eyes directed upwards, let your thoughts often wander upwards, call upon God and commend yourselves to His love and grace.... And your striving will become increasingly more spiritual, earthly things will only touch you as far as it is absolutely necessary for the preservation of the body, and your soul will mature in knowledge, it will become full of light in you and a heavenly peace will enter your heart, for you have overcome the world....
