은혜의 효과.

비록 하나님의 사랑이 항상 끊임없이 사람들에게 은혜의 선물을 제공하기를 원할지라도, 가장 사소한 저항이 하나님의 은혜의 흐름과 그의 효력을 막는다. 하나님의 은혜가 사람들에게 효력을 나타내기 위해 심장의 여는 일이 절대적으로 필요하고, 하나님의 은혜에 대한 의지와 갈망이 절대적으로 필요하다. 왜냐면 하나님의 은혜는 사람이 자유의지로 추구하고 성취해야만 하는 영적인 성숙을 이루기 위한 확실한 수단이기 때문이다. 사람의 받으려는 의지가 없이 그에게 주어진 은혜의 선물은 그의 성장을 지원하지 못할 것이고, 그의 이 땅의 삶의 목적과 목표인 그의 의지를 바꾸지 못할 것이다.

하나님의 지원을 받으려는 인간의 가장 깊은 내면의 갈망이 어는 정도인지는 단지 하나님이 판단할 수 있다. 그러나 작은 의지가 이미 사람에게 결과를 나타내고, 사람에게 도움을 준다. 하나님은 그에게 자신의 은혜를 주고, 은혜는 또한 그에게 역사할 것이다. 자신의 부족함을 깨닫는 일은 하나님의 도움인 은혜를 원하고 구하는 첫 걸음이다. 왜냐면 그가 자신의 연약함을 의식하는 가운데 구원을 갈망하는 손을 뻗어 은혜의 흐름에 자신을 열기 때문이다. 하나님은 은혜를 갈망하는 모든 사람에게 측량할 수 없게 제공한다.

인간의 혼의 성장을 지원하는 모든 도움은 하나님의 큰 사랑을 통해 그가 축복되게 되도록 그에게 제공되는 은혜이다. 그러나 이 은혜는 자신의 상태를 알고, 자신의 연약함 가운데 겸손하게 하나님 앞에 나아가 하나님께 은혜를 구하는 연약하고 도움이 필요한 사람들에게 주어지는 선물이다. 하나님은 이 조건을 내세워야만 한다. 왜냐면 하나님이 인간의 자유의지를 존중하고, 인간의 의지와는 반대로 은혜의 선물을 주는 일은 혼의 성장을 방해하는 강요를 의미하기 때문이다.

하나님은 생각할 수 있는 모든 도움을 사람들에게 제공한다. 그러나 하나님은 사람들에게 도움을 받도록 강요하지 않고, 도움을 받아드릴 자세를 요구하고, 자원하여 감사와 사랑으로 주는 분을 존중하기를 요구한다. 그러면 그는 힘들이지 않고 높은 곳을 향한 길을 가고, 자신의 혼이 큰 성공을 할 수 있게 될 것이다. 왜냐면 하나님이 자신의 무한한 사랑으로 사람들에게 제공하는 것이 사람들의 의지를 통해 사람들에게 역사할 수 있게 된다면, 성공해야만 하기 때문이다.

Effectiveness of grace....

The slightest resistance prevents the influx of divine grace and its effectiveness, although divine love always and constantly wants to bestow gifts of grace upon people. The opening of the heart, the will and desire for God's grace, is absolutely necessary for it to become effective in the human being, because God's grace is a sure means of attaining maturity of soul, which the human being must strive for and achieve of his own free will. A gift of grace offered to him without his will to receive it would promote his development without his will having changed, but this is the purpose and aim of his earthly progress. The extent of the human being's innermost desire to be supported by God can only be judged by God alone, yet He already takes the slightest will into account and grants the human being His help.... He gives him His grace and it will also have its effect on him. The realization of one's own inadequacy is the first step towards desiring and requesting God's grace, God's help, for in the awareness of his weakness he reaches out longingly for salvation, and thus he opens himself to the influx of grace which God hands out unmeasured to anyone who desires it. Every aid which promotes the human being's spiritual development is grace, offered to him by God's great love so that he may become blissfully happy.... It is a gift which, however, is only given to the weak, the needy, who are aware of their condition and who humbly come before God in their weakness, asking for His grace.... This condition has to be imposed by God because He respects the human being's free will, but a gift of grace against the human being's will signifies a constraint which impairs the soul's maturing. God places every conceivable means of help at people's disposal, yet He does not force it upon them but requires the willingness to accept it and to respect the giver in gratitude and love, but then the human being will effortlessly cover the path of ascent and be able to record rich success for his soul. For whatever God gives to people in His infinite love has to be successful if it can take effect on them through their will....
