영과 몸은 혼을 얻기 위해 노력한다.

영과 몸은 공통점이 있다. 이 둘은 혼을 소유하기를 원하고, 혼을 형성하기를 원하지만, 그러나 다른 방식으로 형성하려고 한다. 몸은 세상에 따라 혼을 형성하려고 한다. 왜냐하면 몸에게 세상 자체가 유일하게 추구할 만한 가치가 있는 것처럼 보이기 때문에 자신의 갈망을 혼에게 전가하려고 하기 때문이다. 반면에 영은 추구할 만한 가치가 있는 다른 목적을 가지고 있다. 영은 영의 나라를 차지하기를 원하고, 혼을 영의 나라에 합당하게 형성하려고 노력한다. 그러므로 영은 혼을 다른 방식으로, 하나님의 뜻에 따라 형성하려고 노력한다. 그러므로 하나님의 뜻은 육체의 욕망과는 반대이다.

몸은 물질을 추구하지만, 반면에 영은 물질을 완전하게 벗어난다. 영의 의지와 추구하는 일은 단지 영원한 신성에게 향하고, 하나님과의 연합이 되어 영원히 빛으로 충만한 상태가 되려는 단지 하나의 소망을 가지고 있다. 그러므로 영은 또한 혼이 자신의 갈망에 합류하게 만들기 위해 노력한다. 영은 혼이 자신과 같은 의지를 갖게 하려고 노력하고, 어떤 면에서 혼을 자신에게 끌어들여, 혼을 몸의 소원의 성취 대상인 세상으로부터 자유롭게 되게 한다. 그러므로 영의 세계와 반대되는 물질과 세상을 극복하게 한다.

영이 영의 나라를 위해 혼을 얻는 일에 성공하면, 혼이 이 땅의 삶의 시험에 합격한 것이다. 왜냐하면 이런 일은 의지를 하나님께로 돌리고, 세상의 권세자로부터 돌아서는 것을 의미하기 때문이다. 몸은 아직 세상에 속해 있지만, 혼의 갈망에 동참한다. 그러므로 혼이 영과 하나가 되기 원하면, 몸의 구성원인 영적인 입자들이 다른 형체를 입을 정도로 성장하기 위해 자원하여 따른다. 영의 입자들은 형체 안에서 성장해나가는 과정을 훨씬 더 빠르게 이룬다. 왜냐면 그들이 그들의 저항을 포기했기 때문이다. 사람 안의 영이 몸을 극복했고, 몸은 패배를 선언한 것이다.

몸과 혼이 자신들을 영에게 맡긴다. 그러므로 영이 혼을 완전히 차지하고, 혼이 영과 연합한다. 이제 모든 생각과 느낌과 의지가 단지 영에 의해 결정된다. 그러므로 옳아야 만한다. 왜냐면 영은 하나님의 일부이기 때문이다. 영이 항상 혼이 하나님의 뜻에 합당한 것을 행하고 생각하게 할 것이다. 하나님을 바라보면서 영원한 행복을 찾고 발견하기 위해, 영과 연합하여 하나님께 향하고, 하나님과 연합하기 위해 추구하는 상태가 혼이 추구해야 하는 상태이다.

Mind and body seek to win the soul....

Spirit and body have one thing in common, that they want to possess the soul, that they seek to mould it, but in different ways. The body tries to mould the soul according to the world because the world itself seems to be the only thing worth striving for and therefore it tries to transfer its desire to the soul. The spirit, on the other hand, has a different desirable goal; it wants to occupy the spiritual realm and seeks to mould the soul according to this realm; it therefore seeks to shape it in a different way.... according to the divine will. Thus the divine will is opposed to the desire of the body.... The body strives for matter, whereas the spirit is completely removed from matter.... Its will and endeavours are only aimed at aligning itself with the eternal divinity, it only knows one desire, the union with God and the eternally light-filled state. Thus it also tries to determine the soul to join its desire, it tries to induce it to the same will, it draws the soul to itself, so to speak, and thus detaches it from the world, which for the body means giving up its desires, thus overcoming matter, the world, which is the opposite of the spiritual world. If the spirit succeeds in winning the soul for the spiritual kingdom, then the soul has passed its test of earthly life, for this means a turning of the will towards God and a turning away from the one who is lord of the world. The body still belongs to this world but if it joins the desire of the soul, thus willingly yields, if it wants to unite with the spirit, the spiritual substances, of which the body consists, are also ripe for the next moulding, and they cover the course of development in form considerably faster because they have given up their resistance. The spirit in man has overcome the body, and the body has declared itself defeated.... The body has left the soul to the spirit, thus the spirit has taken complete possession of the soul, the soul has united with the spirit. And now all thinking, feeling and willing is only determined by the spirit, and it must therefore be right, for the spirit is part of God and it will always determine the soul to do and think that which corresponds to God's will. And this is the state the soul should strive for.... in union with the spirit towards God and strive for union with Him in order to seek and find eternal bliss in the contemplation of God....
