L'influence de la matière sur l'homme

La matière jugée exerce une grande influence sur l'homme puisque le spirituel lié le presse à s'unir avec lui, ce qui a pour effet que l'homme désire la posséder. Le spirituel lié dans la matière se pousse dans l'amour de l'homme, il cherche à se rendre indispensable à lui, il tend à l'unification avec l'homme, parce qu'avec cela il se sent plus fort dans la résistance contre Dieu, parce qu'il sent aussi la résistance dans laquelle l'homme reste encore contre Dieu, c'est-à-dire qu’il pousse l'homme à résister encore à Dieu dans son immaturité. Et les hommes se laissent facilement influencer. Eux-mêmes ont le plus grand désir pour la matière, et ainsi le spirituel semblable s'unit seulement avec ce qui se trouve sur une marche différente de développement. Mais l'homme est en danger de tomber de sa marche de développement déjà plus haute s'il s'enchaîne à la matière, chose pour laquelle il ne peut pas être assez averti de ne pas tendre vers la matière et il est constamment exhorter à la dépasser. Le spirituel dans la matière peut aussi être volontaire pour le service et donc aider l'homme dans son développement vers le Haut, comme aussi vice versa l'homme peut aider le spirituel dans la matière à sa remontée. Il s'agit alors des objets qu’il emploie, mais ils ne doivent pas encourager les hommes à désirer ardemment leur possession, donc ils ne doivent pas réveiller l'amour faux pour la possession matérielle. Dès que la matière sert l'homme, la résistance contre Dieu est déjà cassée; mais la matière qui ne s'acquitte d’aucun but de service, réveillera souvent dans l'homme un désir augmenté de possession, et c’est cette matière qui est le danger pour l'âme de l'homme, parce que son influence sur l'âme est grande et peut avoir pour effet que l'âme se précipite jusqu'au stade dans lequel elle est de nouveau incorporée dans la matière. Alors le spirituel lié a atteint ce qu’il voulait, il a attiré en bas tout seul le spirituel libre et d’une certaine manière il a renforcé sa force, l'homme est tombé victime de l'influence de l'adversaire de Dieu qui a agi sur sa volonté pour l'employer dans la direction opposée, pour le pousser dans la matière morte, pour le pousser à la retombée, parce qu'avec cela il augmente son règne, son pouvoir et sa violence, et il stimule continuellement les êtres à une rébellion constante et à l'animosité envers Dieu. Celui qui se tourne vers Dieu, il le perd et il cherche à empêcher cela par tous les moyens. La matière elle-même, c'est-à-dire le spirituel lié en elle, dans son immaturité lui est encore soumise, bien que l'adversaire de Dieu ne puisse pas agir d’une manière déterminante sur le spirituel. Mais vu que le spirituel lui-même n'a pas renoncé à la résistance contre Dieu, il pousse aussi l'homme qui se trouve dans la même résistance, et auquel la matière est indiquée en tant qu'adversaire de Dieu, la matière est présentée devant l'œil de l'homme comme moyen de séduction du monde. L'homme peut se soustraire à cette influence ou bien s’en défendre au moyen de sa volonté, mais souvent il exploite la liberté de la volonté d’une manière erronée et cède à la poussée de l'ennemi de son âme. Donc la lutte contre la matière est une vraie lutte que l'homme doit mener dans la vie terrestre, parce que lorsqu’il l'a vaincue, sa remontée lui est assurée, parce qu'il n'existe alors plus rien qui le retient sur la Terre, et alors son âme peut s'élever dans des sphères spirituelles, parce qu'alors elle n'est plus entravée par rien dans le vol vers le Haut et donc il n'existe plus aucun danger de rechute à ce stade, car elle l’a déjà depuis longtemps dépassé et l'homme aide en même temps le spirituel dans la matière à remonter, lorsqu'il l’utilise et l'aide avec cela au service, au travers duquel le spirituel dans la matière peut se libérer de toute forme jusqu'à ce que lui-même ait atteint le dernier stade et puisse servir comme homme dans la libre volonté.

Influence of matter on humans....

Directed matter exerts great influence on the human being insofar as the spiritual bound in it urges him to unite with it, which therefore has the effect of the human being's desire for its possession. The spiritual bound in matter pushes itself into the human being's love.... it seeks to make itself indispensable to him, it strives to unite with the human being because it thereby feels stronger in its resistance against God. For it also senses the resistance the human being still has against God, or it pushes towards people who still resist God in their immaturity. And these people are also easily influenced. They themselves have the greatest desire for matter, and thus like-minded things come together which are only on different levels of development. But the human being is in danger of sinking from his already higher level of development if he chains himself to matter, which is why he cannot be warned enough to strive for matter and is constantly admonished to overcome it. The spiritual in matter can indeed also be willing to serve and help the human being in his ascent development, just as conversely the human being can help the spiritual bound in matter to ascend. But then it concerns objects of use which do not kindle the human being's greed for possession, thus do not awaken the wrong love in the human being for material possessions. As soon as matter serves the human being the resistance against God is already broken; but matter which does not fulfil a serving purpose will often awaken an increased desire in the human being to possess it, and it is this matter which is regarded as a danger for the human being's soul, for its influence on the soul is great and can have such an effect that the soul itself sinks to the stage where it is embodied in matter again. Then the bound spiritual has achieved what it wanted.... it has drawn the free spiritual down to itself and, as it were, strengthened its own power.... the human being has fallen prey to the influence of God's adversary, who has influenced his will to use it in the wrong direction, who constantly presents dead matter to him in order to persuade him to relapse, because thereby he increases his kingdom, his power and violence and it stimulates the God-hostile beings into constant resistance. What turns towards God is lost to him, and this he tries to thwart with all means. Matter itself, i.e. the spiritual bound in it, is still in bondage to him in its immaturity, although God's adversary cannot have a determining effect on the spiritual. But since the spiritual itself has not given up its resistance to God, it also pushes towards people who are in the same resistance, who are pointed to matter by God's adversary, to whom he puts matter before the eye as a lure of the world. The human being can evade this influence or resist it with his will, yet he often uses the freedom of his will wrongly and gives in to the urge of the enemy of his soul. For this reason the battle against matter is the actual battle the human being should wage in earthly life, for once he has overcome it his ascent is also assured, because then there will be nothing holding him back on earth and then his soul can soar into spiritual spheres, because then nothing will hinder its flight upwards and thus there will no longer be any danger, and at the same time the human being then helps the spiritual substance in matter to ascend, which he uses, and thereby helps it to be of service, whereby the spiritual substance in matter can release itself from every form until it has finally also reached the last stage and can serve as a human being in free will....
