Is life on earth an end in itself or the means to an end....

The life of a human being on earth would have no real reason if it was merely an end in itself.... With other words, you humans would find it difficult to find a real reason for it because you can clearly see the vast differences between human destinies and would constantly question the purpose of a hard, sorrowful, miserable life. Yet you could find an immediate answer if you looked at life not as an end in itself but as the means to an end. If every person's fate were the same, if every human being's life consisted of harmony, no problems, pleasures and worldly happiness, hardly differing from other people's lives, then you could certainly believe that there is no deeper purpose to earthly life than that of life itself. But as soon as you seriously think about it you will not be satisfied with this explanation.... you will search for a deeper reason and will certainly find it because it only requires a question on your part in order to give you an answer. And all human beings should ask themselves this question.... For it really does not show intelligence or intellectual activity if a person is satisfied to experience life merely as a whim of the Creator. Every person who claims to be intelligent would hardly use his time and effort making entirely useless things.... nor would he want to regard himself as an entirely useless creature with the sole purpose of supporting himself.... without being able to determine the length of his existence.... Is earthly life an end in itself or the means to an end?....

It could be very beneficial for someone lacking in faith to raise this question. You humans are by no means expected to have blind faith, for such blind faith is of no value. But you can use your intelligence, you can consider every aspect of what you are required to believe. Serious thought can lead you to an acceptable result, and you can rest assured that such mental effort will be blessed if it is applied to achieve greater insight.... to the knowledge of what is still hidden from you humans but which need not remain hidden from you. To discover the purpose of earthly life as a human being is one such insight, since it belongs to the region of the unprovable, but it can nevertheless be gratifying to a person if he genuinely wants it. Because as soon as he realises that human life is merely the means to an end, increasingly more questions will arise in him. He will try to discover the true purpose and then also become aware of his own task, he will no longer be satisfied with just worrying about earthly life, he will learn to look at everything as determined by purpose.... and then he will find and pursue a spiritual attitude which will completely satisfy him....

The conscious life of a human being only begins when he understands the purpose of earthly life. Because then his thoughts will aim towards a goal which he will try to achieve. Only then will he himself endeavour to start improving his soul; only then earthly activities will move into the background, although he also will be able to master his earthly life with God's help, Who will bless this approach to life and repeatedly make new aspects accessible to him which will make him think and lead him to an ascent. An earthly life in the awareness of purpose can never be lived in vain; it has to result in spiritual success, whereas a person looking at life as an end in itself will not acquire any spiritual advantage. As soon as he is willing to love, questions about the real purpose of life on earth will also arise and then his thinking will change too. However, if he is unwilling to love.... which is usually the case with those who have not yet recognised the purpose of life.... one cannot speak of higher development, the person's soul remains as it was at the beginning of his embodiment, life on earth will have been in vain and then the immense blessing, which could have resulted in the highest reward, will be lost.... But every human being can come to the realisation that he lives on earth for a purpose because every human being has the ability to think, because he can weigh one thought against another and is therefore able to form his own opinion.

And on serious reflection he would definitely come to that insight, because he can recognise a certain purpose of lawful order within the creation of nature which he would also have to apply to himself.... or he would have a very limited capacity of thought, an attitude which could hardly be called intelligent. The human being can come to the realisation that there is a purpose to earthly life or he could not be held responsible for how he has used this earthly life. People who do not want to recognise a purpose of earthly life in fact deny this accountability, but enough evidence in the creation of nature can be found that no natural law, no divine order, can be trespassed without consequences. Thus the human being also has to accept a certain order for himself; he too has to feel part of this law of order. Thus he cannot arbitrarily shape his life without any responsibility towards God, Who created everything, but he has to try to support the law of divine order. He has to acknowledge a Lawgiver, and then he will also feel responsible to this Lawgiver. If this Lawgiver is not acknowledged, then the human being will not feel responsible to a Lord; then he is clearly still subject to a God-opposing power, which always tries to influence a person such that his earthly life will be to no avail, that any belief in a purpose and aim of earthly existence fades away, so that this power can hold on to him again for an infinitely long time....

Tiene la vida en tierra un fin absoluto o es medio para el propósito....

El camino sobre la tierra como hombre no tendría ningún razonamiento si fuese solo para el propio propósito.... o los hombres encontrarían difícilmente una razón equivalente, porque estáis viendo los destinos muy diferentes entre los hombres y cada vez os surge la pregunta cuál es el propósito de una vida penosa y difícil de llevar. Pero podéis encontrar inmediatamente una respuesta, si contemplaís vuestra vida no como propósito propio sino como medio para el propósito. Si cada destino terrestre estuviera igual, cada vida terrestre se llevaría en armonía, despreocupado con alegrías teniendo mucha felicidad, poco diferenciada de otros hombres, entonces pudierais creer que la vida terrestre no tiene ningún propósito más profundo que la vida en sí misma. Pero pensándolo seriamente no vais a satisfaceros con esa explicación.... vais a buscar una razón más profunda y encontrarla seguramente, porque solo hace falta una pregunta por vuestra parte para poder pasaros una respuesta. Y esa pregunta deberían hacerse todos los hombres.... Porque no es señal de mucha inteligencia o mente clara, si un hombre se satisface pensando que pasa por la tierra creado por una casualidad de la naturaleza, porque cada hombre que se cree inteligente no perdiera su tiempo y fuerza pensando que haya una creación de cosas que no tengan un sentido.... y no quisiera verse el mismo como criatura sin sentido y que solo tiene el único propósito de mantenerse a sí mismo.... pero sin poder determinar la duración de su existencia.... ¿Es la vida terrestre propósito propio o medio para el propósito?.... Hacerse esta pregunta vale mucho para aquel que no quiere creer. No se pide nunca a nadie creer ciegamente, porque una creencia ciega no tiene valor. Pero podéis usar vuestra mente, podéis pensarlo en diferentes direcciones de qué se os pida de creer.... Pensándolo podéis llegar a una conclusión que os vale, y podéis estar seguros que cada tarea pensativa será beneficiosa si vale para una conclusión más profunda.... el conocimiento sobre lo que se esconde ante el hombre todavía y que no hace falta esconder más. Revelar la razón de una vida terrestre es una gran comprensión, porque cae en el área de no poder aprobarlo, pero puede hacer feliz a un hombre de la misma manera mientras quiera saberlo. Entonces surgirán más y más preguntas en el hombre cuando se ha dado cuenta que la vida humana solo es medio para el propósito.... Intentará descubrir el propósito auténtico y va a ver ahora su propia tarea, no se satisfacerá con la única preocupación sobre su vida terrestre, contemplará todos los acontecimientos y acciones bajo una condición determinada.... y encontrar ahora una vía pensando y seguirla y que la va a satisfacer mucho.... (23 de abril 1958) Entonces, con la comprensión del propósito de la vida terrestre, empieza la vida consciente del hombre, entonces sus pensamientos serán dirigidos a una meta que intenta conseguir, entonces empieza a arrimar el hombro de trabajar en su alma, a partir de ahora los retos terrestres pasarán al fondo, aunque podrá llevar la vida terrestre con la ayuda divina, Él que va a bendecir una vida con esta actitud y abrirle cada vez otros aspectos nuevos y que le ayudarán en sus pensamientos para llevarle a la altura. Una vida atada al propósito nunca puede ser vivida en vano, tiene que conllevar éxitos espirituales, pero un hombre no tendrá ganancias espirituales si lleva una vida únicamente como propósito propio. Si él está dispuesto a amar, le van a salir por sí mismo preguntas sobre su propio propósito vital y entonces se cambiará el pensamiento.... Pero si le falta esa disposición de amor.... lo que es el caso con aquellos que no han descubierto su propósito de la vida en tierra todavía.... entonces no se puede hablar de un movimiento hacia arriba, entonces el alma del hombre se queda como al principio de su encarnación, entonces su camino en la tierra pasará en vano, una gran gracia se pasa sin aprovechar y que le hubiera podido traer un éxito extremo....

Pero es posible que cada uno pueda llegar a esa conclusión, que anda por el mundo por una razón concreta, porque cada hombre tiene la capacidad de pensar, porque piensa sobre otros hombres y juzgarlo. Y pensándolo seriamente llegaría a esa conclusión que en la naturaleza existe un propósito en una cierto orden y que se puede aplicar a sí mismo como criatura mucho más desarrollada en la creación.... sino tuviera una mente muy limitada, una opinión con poca inteligencia.... El hombre puede ganar la comprensión de un propósito en la vida, sino no se podría pedirle una responsabilidad como aprovecha su vida en tierra. Una responsabilidad de este modo se lo niega aquel hombre que no quiere ver un propósito en la vida en tierra, pero también existen bastantes pruebas en la naturaleza, que no se puede revelar sin consecuencias contra el orden natural, contra el orden divino, y por eso también el hombre tiene que admitir para sí mismo un cierto orden, tiene que sentirse como parte de las reglas del orden.... Y por eso no puede llevar su vida arbitrariamente sin cualquier responsabilidad frente aquel que todo había creado, sino tiene que tiene que intentar de equilibrarse en la ley del orden divino.... Tiene que admitir al legislador, entonces se sentirá responsable frente al legislador. Si no se reconoce al legislador, el hombre se siente libre de cualquier responsabilidad frente al Señor, entonces se encuentra en el poder del adversario, porque siempre intentará influir al hombre de la manera que la vida en tierra no le ofrece ningún avance, que cada pensamiento en un sentido y propósito de la vida se desvanece y que ese poder le puede dominar para todos los tiempos....
