Striving of the adversary of God to alienate people from Him....

Spiritual development is so extremely important in earthly life and yet is mostly disregarded, and this is the work of God's adversary whose endeavour is to prevent people as much as possible from thinking about their actual purpose in life. Only active reflection leads people to the aim, it brings them to recognize their task in a short time. But as soon as the demands of the world approach him in such a way that they fully occupy his thinking, God's adversary will have achieved his aim of dissuading him from every spiritual thought, and then the human being will not do the slightest for his soul because he is not aware of its hardship. For in order to work on his soul he has to know that it is in a defective state, he has to imagine the cause of it, he also has to know about the consequences and recognize the former in a wrong earthly living.... Only then will he strive to change himself and thus tackle the work on his soul. But God's adversary tries to prevent all this by placing earthly life in the foreground and using every opportunity to entice the human being with what belongs to the world. And the human being all too willingly accepts worldly temptations, he allows himself to be lured and follows him by striving for the pleasures and goods of the world, by allowing himself to be completely captivated by the world. A person who still enjoys the world will never seriously think about the meaning and purpose of his earthly life, he will never care for his inner life but only ever pay attention to the external; he will enjoy life to the fullest and not miss any opportunity to help the body to enjoy itself while he will not think about his soul at all, and therefore he can never develop ascendancy as soon as he pays too much attention to the world, for it is part of him who wants to ruin the soul, who believes he can diminish God's might and strength and therefore also seeks to distance the human being from God. And humanity willingly follows him, it does not resist, it does not refuse but does everything God's adversary demands, and he believes himself to be over-strong in his power. People's will itself increases this power, the human being hands himself over to God's opposing power where he should offer resistance and can do so if he raises his thoughts to God and requests the strength from Him. For often enough it is held up to him what he should do and what he should refrain from doing, often enough his own task in life is presented to him and he is stimulated to think about it.... If he does not do so, it is his fault, for God truly does not lack opportunities where the human being can come to recognize his purpose in life. If he lets these opportunities pass he will have to answer for them, just as, conversely, he will receive grace upon grace if he strives to fulfil his task in life of his own accord and raises his thoughts to God. For God takes hold of every outstretched hand which appeals to Him, but just as He never forces the human being's will to incline towards Him if he strives towards His adversary....

L’effort de l'adversaire de Dieu est d'éloigner les hommes de Lui

Le développement spirituel dans la vie terrestre est extrêmement important mais souvent il n'est pas pris en considération, et cela est l’action de l'adversaire de Dieu, dont l’effort est d'empêcher le plus d'hommes possible à réfléchir sur le vrai but de leur vie. Or seulement une réflexion vivante mène l'homme au but, en peu de temps il est mené à la connaissance de sa tâche. Mais dès que les exigences du monde s'approchent de lui de manière à occuper totalement ses pensées, l'adversaire de Dieu a atteint son but, il le détourne de toute pensée spirituelle, et maintenant l'homme ne fera pas la moindre chose pour son âme, parce qu’il ne se rend pas compte de sa misère, parce que pour travailler sur son âme il doit savoir que celle-ci se trouve dans un état imparfait, il doit se représenter la cause de cela, il doit aussi en savoir des conséquences et reconnaître comme cause première un chemin terrestre erroné. Seulement alors il tendra à changer et à s'occuper du travail sur son âme. Mais l'adversaire de Dieu cherche à empêcher tout cela en mettant au premier plan la vie terrestre et il exploitera chaque occasion pour séduire l'homme avec ce qui appartient au monde. Et l'homme cède trop volontiers aux tentations mondaines, il se laisse séduire et il le suit en tendant aux joies et aux biens du monde, en se laissant capturer totalement par le monde. L'homme qui trouve encore du plaisir dans le monde, ne s’intéressera pas sérieusement aux pensées sur le sens et le but de sa vie terrestre, il ne soignera jamais sa vie intérieure, mais il regardera toujours seulement vers l'extérieur ; il jouira à plein de la vie et il ne perdra aucune occasion d'aider le corps à la jouissance, mais il ne pensera pas à son âme, et donc il ne pourra jamais se développer vers le Haut car il prend trop en considération le monde, parce que celui-ci est du coté de celui qui veut ruiner les âmes, qui croit pouvoir diminuer la Puissance et la Force de Dieu et donc il cherche à éloigner l'homme de Dieu. Et l'humanité le suit volontairement, elle ne se défend pas, elle ne refuse pas, mais elle fait tout ce qu’exige l'adversaire de Dieu, elle se croit très forte avec son pouvoir. La volonté des hommes eux-mêmes augmente ce pouvoir, l'homme s’en remet à la force contraire à Dieu, là où il devrait opposer résistance, et il pourrait le faire s’il élevait ses pensées vers Dieu et Lui demandait la Force. Parce qu'il lui est présenté assez souvent ce qu’il doit faire et ne pas faire, assez souvent il lui est présentée sa vraie tâche de vie et il est stimulé à réfléchir sur celle-ci. S'il ne le fait pas, c’est de sa faute, parce que Dieu ne lui fait pas vraiment manquer d’occasions où l'homme peut arriver à la connaissance de la tâche de sa vie. S'il laisse passer ces occasions il devra en répondre, comme vice versa il lui affluera Grâces sur Grâces s'il tend à dérouler sa tâche de vie par sa propre poussée et s’il élève ses pensées vers Dieu. Parce que Dieu saisit chaque main tendue qui s'élève en prière, mais il ne force jamais la volonté de l'homme de se tourner vers Lui lorsqu’il tend vers Son adversaire.
