Why and when is knowledge of previous lives necessary?....

It is not important what people think about a teaching that deals with the soul's previous life if they only lead a God-pleasing way of life on earth. For them, knowledge of the time before earthly life is not absolutely necessary. However, people who live irresponsibly, who do not think of their souls and eternity and only consider earthly life worthy of attention, should be made aware of the consequences of their way of life and thus be presented with the knowledge of the unspeakably agonizing and endlessly long path the soul has already travelled and the consequences of an unused earthly life. The recollection has to be taken away from the human being but the knowledge about the time before the embodiment as a human being can be imparted to him because he is free to accept it or not. The unbelieving person will indeed deny the truth of it and he will not feel influenced by it. However, God sends him the warning so that he can somehow take a stand on it, either in the affirmative or in the negative. An unbelievable indifference prevails amongst humanity, life is taken for granted, but not the slightest thought is given to the fact that the human being also has a responsibility for the time of his earthly life, that he is expected to perform, that he is given a task which he has to fulfil.... And in order to awaken this sense of responsibility in him, he should know about his past life, as far as this is possible without coercion of faith. The thought of it can be an incentive to live more consciously, and therefore God imparts this knowledge to people, which can now be received by willing earthly children, yet again it need not necessarily be conveyed to all people if they endeavour to live pleasing to God without this knowledge. But to give people the recollection would burden them excessively and render them incapable of living their earthly existence, for it would then no longer be lived of their own free will but the human being would forcibly decide to live in accordance with God's will, providing it were possible for him to look back on his long earthly life. However, if a person endeavours to lead a right life, the knowledge of his past life will not frighten him either, but will only increase his striving to meet the demands of life and to shape himself according to divine will. Admittedly, the human being is often reluctant to accept something completely unknown to him as truth, therefore the reasoning has to be conveyed to him at the same time, and then it will seem understandable to him that this is also only intended to be a means of help in order to lead misguided people back onto the right path of faith. And from this point of view it will also be acceptable to him what he is told about the soul's continuation of life. Mankind, which is so distant from God, needs such means, for God knows about its adversity and therefore provides it with knowledge which is suitable to remedy the spiritual adversity. The will of man nevertheless remains free. If he is reluctant to accept the knowledge of it as truth he will not be forced, yet the time before the embodiment as a human being cannot be visualized to him in any other way than through such teachings which are imparted to earthly people with divine approval....

Pourquoi et quand est nécessaire le savoir sur le passé ?

Il n'est pas important comment les hommes se placent vis à vis d’un enseignement qui traite de la vie antérieure de l'âme, si sur la Terre ils mènent seulement un chemin de vie complaisant à Dieu. Le savoir sur le temps passé avant la vie terrestre n'est pas nécessaire à tout prix. Mais aux hommes qui vivent de façon irresponsable, qui ne pensent pas à leurs âmes et à l’Éternité et considèrent seulement la vie terrestre comme importante, il doit leur être mis devant les yeux les conséquences de leur chemin de vie et donc ils doivent savoir quel parcours indiciblement atroce et infiniment long l'âme a déjà traversé et quelles conséquences aura une vie terrestre mal utilisée. Aux hommes il doit être enlevé la réminiscence, mais il peut leur être transmis le savoir sur le temps qui a précédé leur incorporation en tant qu’homme, parce qu'ils sont libres de l'accepter ou non. L'homme mécréant peut de toute façon nier la Vérité de cela, et il ne s'en sentira pas influencé. Mais Dieu lui fait arriver de toute façon l'information, pour qu'il prenne en quelque sorte position, en affirmant ou en niant. Une incroyable indifférence prédomine chez les hommes, la vie est prise comme une spontanéité, mais l’homme ne pense pas qu’il ait une quelconque responsabilité pour le temps de sa vie terrestre, qu’il lui soit demandé une prestation, qu’il lui soit imposé une tâche qu’il doit accomplir. Et pour réveiller en lui ce sens de la responsabilité, il doit connaître sa vie antérieure autant que cela est possible sans contrainte pour sa foi. La pensée concernant celle-ci peut être un aiguillon pour une vie plus consciente, et donc Dieu transmet aux hommes ce savoir, qui maintenant peut être accueilli par les fils terrestres de bonne volonté, mais il n’est pas nécessaire de le porter auprès de tous les hommes qui s’efforcent de vivre en étant complaisant à Dieu sans ce savoir. Car donner aux hommes la réminiscence les chargerait outre mesure et les rendrait incapables d'affronter l'existence terrestre, parce que celle-ci ne serait plus vécu dans la libre volonté, l'homme se déciderait obligatoirement à vivre dans la Volonté de Dieu, pour autant qu’il lui soit possible d’observer rétrospectivement son long chemin de vie terrestre. Mais si l'homme s’efforce de mener une vie juste, il ne s'effrayera alors pas de ce savoir sur sa vie antérieure, cela augmentera en lui seulement la tendance à respecter les exigences de la vie et à se former selon la Volonté divine. Souvent l'homme se refuse à accepter quelque chose qui est pour lui entièrement méconnu comme Vérité, donc il doit lui en être en même temps transmis le motif et alors il lui apparaîtra compréhensible que cela doive être seulement un moyen auxiliaire pour reconduire des hommes guidés dans l'erreur sur la voie de la foi. Et du point de vue du monde, ce qui lui est enseigné sur la vie antérieure de l'âme lui sera acceptable. L'humanité qui est loin de Dieu a besoin de tels moyens, parce que Dieu connaît sa misère et donc l’amène à connaître un savoir qui est apte à suspendre la misère spirituelle. Mais la volonté de l'homme reste de toute façon libre. S'il refuse d'accepter ce savoir comme Vérité, il ne sera pas forcé, mais le temps avant l'incarnation en tant qu’homme ne pourra lui être rendu clair qu’au travers de tels Enseignements qui sont transmis aux hommes terrestres avec l'Assentiment divin.
