Human additions.... Attendance at church....

Everything in relation to God has to result in success for a person providing he complies with or makes use of it.... It will have to lead to God.... but only if all requirements are actually adhered to. Formality, however, will not lead to success. It is merely easier for one person and more difficult for another to reach the objective, in as much as the latter has chosen to walk an exceptionally difficult path, whereas the other path is easier but can be an equally joyful service to God. Hence the human being is submitting himself to conditions which were not required of him by God. It is helpful to become aware of the individual teachings which were added by people to the teaching of Christ. First of all, attendance at church was made a duty, which is not always spiritually beneficial but can also be soul-destroying.

The idea that the human being will turn more towards God by going to church is extremely misguided; instead he is far more at risk of turning what should be a profound inner experience into a habitual act. The true aspirant will look for God everywhere, his church attendance will certainly not harm him but he can find contact with God anytime and anywhere and will not need a particular place for it. Therefore it would only be necessary to hear God’s Word if it is not made accessible to the person elsewhere, and this will only find God’s complete agreement as long as the purpose of attending church is just the said imparting of the divine Word. All other ceremonial activities are embellishments which were more than less added by people and nowadays motivate the concept of a service to God, although something entirely different than attending such practices, which have nothing in common with the real work of the soul, is meant by serving God.

It is entirely unimportant and inconsequential whether and to what extent the human being will comply with the requirements which are prerequisite of belonging to the Roman-Catholic church. The church founded by Jesus Christ on earth has nothing to do with external appearances. In spite of its external manifestations its profound principles can certainly be recognised, and thus they need not be obstacles to recognising Jesus Christ’s true teachings and to living accordingly. Alternatively however, these external manifestations are not necessarily needed in order to be a true Christian in accordance with God’s will. It is not difficult to see that people are put off precisely because of the many formalities, and Jesus Christ certainly did not consider that the achievement of eternal bliss depended on the fulfilment of humanly decreed commandments such as attending church regularly, taking part in an action which is likewise a humanly devised theatrical play that is of no benefit for and has no influence on the human soul.

People should consider that the Lord on earth objected to outward appearances, that He did nothing in order to emphasize His Word effectively, with the exception of miracles, which intended to prove His Divinity to people. However, He has never done anything that could justify or somehow substantiate the above actions today but they are mere humanly introduced formalities which have no other deeper meaning than what people had assigned to them. And this can never correspond with divine will, thus it cannot be required of people as evidence for complying with the teaching of Christ....

Todo lo que indique a Dios tiene que aportar éxito a los hombres cuando se emplea o se observa. Sí, tiene que conducir a Dios, sin embargo sólo bajo previa condición de que todo lo que sea observado sea de forma viva, pero todo lo que es forma no lleva al éxito. A un hombre puede serle fácil sólo, al otro difícil llegar de ese modo a la meta de quien elige un camino que es extremamente difícil transitarlo, mientras que otro camino es más fácil, y que sin embargo puede ser un alegre “servicio a Dios”. Pues ese se somete él mismo a condiciones que por parte de Dios no le fueron impuestas. Es instructivo tomar buena nota de las enseñanza en particular que como accesorios humanos fueron añadidos a la Doctrina de Cristo. La primera que está hecha como obligación es: La asistencia a la iglesia, la que no siempre es favorable al espíritu, sino que puede actuar entorpecedor también.

Es un parecer en extremo erróneo, de que de ese modo el hombre se consagra más a Dios, antes más bien existe el peligro próximo, de que, lo que debería ser una vivencia interior, sea para él un asunto mecánico. El aspirante verdadero busca en todas partes a Dios, cierto que no le hará daño la visita a la iglesia, pero él puede ponerse en contacto con Dios en todo momento y en todas partes, para lo que no necesita ningún lugar especial.

Por lo que sólo sería necesario, por lo tanto, para oír la Palabra de Dios, si de otra forma no le es accesible al hombre, y eso encuentra más que nada la plena aprobación de Dios, mientras que la visita a la iglesia sea precisamente sólo con el fin de procurarse la Palabra divina. Todos los demás actos ceremoniales son más menos accesorios añadidos por los hombres y que motivan hoy el concepto de “servicio a Dios, o misas”, a pesar de que “el servir a Dios” se ha de entender de otra forma muy diferente que con la presencia a tales acciones, las que no tienen nada que ver con el auténtico trabajo en el alma.

Es completamente insignificante y sin importancia, si el hombre se somete y hasta que punto a las determinaciones que son las condiciones previas para la pertenencia a la iglesia católica-romana. La Iglesia, que Jesucristo fundó en la tierra, no tiene de por sí, nada que ver con cosas superficiales o formalidades. Ella puede ser reconocida bien en sus principios más profundos o axiomas a pesar de las acciones exteriores, y por eso no necesitan ser un impedimento esas superficialidades a que la Iglesia de Cristo verdadera sea reconocida y vivir según ella, sin embargo, esas exteriorizaciones, no pertenecen por el contrario a ella, para ser un auténtico cristiano conforme a la Voluntad de Dios. Sin dificultad se ha de reconocer, que precisamente las muchas formas y ceremonias apartan a los hombres, y Jesucristo, con seguridad, no ha hecho dependiente la entrada en la eterna Bienaventuranza del cumplimiento de esos preceptos promulgados por los hombres, como son: la visita regular a la iglesia, la presencia o asistencia a un acto, que es igualmene construído por los hombres, un juego teatral que es, sin ninguna clase de valor e influencia en el alma humana.

Los hombres tienen que tener en cuenta, que el Señor en la tierra era un enemigo de ceremonias y exteriorizaciones, de que Él no ha hecho nada para corroborar Su Palabra de manera impresionante, con excepción de los hechos milagrosos, los que debían demostrar a los hombres Su Divinidad. Jamás ejecutó Él algo que pudiera justificar esos actos de hoy o de algún modo pudieran ser motivados o establecidos, sino que ellos son exclusivamente introducidos por los hombres, formalidades sin ningún profundo sentido, mas que el que los hombres precisamente le atribuyan. Y eso jamás puede corresponder a la Voluntad divina, y de ese modo jamás tampoco ser exigido de los hombres como prueba de la observación de la Doctrina de Cristo.
