Climbing the mountains.... striving for spiritual height....

Behold, if you aspire to climb the mountains, you must not lack strength of purpose, for everything that is high up must, as it were, be climbed. A sluggish man cannot easily reach his aim, for he must apply double strength in order to look down with double satisfaction and bless the path he has travelled which has led him to the heights. Spiritual striving must also be regarded in this way. It is likewise a perpetual desire to climb to the summit, which is spiritual perfection. The tireless wanderer ascends the heights with certainty, if he does not allow himself to be distracted by the toils and efforts which the path brings him. His gaze is directed upwards, he spares no effort and strives only towards the aim. If the walk on earth takes place in the same way, if the human being with his gaze turned upwards also takes every effort and strain upon himself, if he does not let himself be distracted by the momentary pleasures of the world but sends his soul ahead into the upper regions and uses all his will to reach the spiritual height, he will one day be able to look back with satisfaction on his earthly path, and he will never regret what he has sacrificed to reach this aim, to stand in the light and be relieved of all suffering. Anyone who stands on top of the mountain and feels free from all earthly burdens, who believes to be closer to his lord and creator, as it were, who can now let his gaze wander over endless vast regions and behold everything in its splendour and beauty, will be able to roughly imagine the spiritual freedom in which the soul can behold everything that exists around it after having completed its ascent, how it feels free from all earthly heaviness and, standing in the light of the divine sun of grace, may enjoy unspeakable delights. And even if the ascent is arduous, the reward is so incomparably glorious that it outweighs a thousandfold all the sufferings and renunciations that preceded it....

Escalando las montañas.... Luchando por las alturas espirituales....

Veáis, so os esforcéis por escalar montañas, no os debe faltar determinación, porque todo lo que está en lo alto hay que escalarlo, por así decirlo. No es fácil para una persona perezosa llegar a su meta, porque tiene que usar el doble de fuerza para luego mirar hacia abajo con el doble de satisfacción y bendecir el camino recorrido que lo ha llevado hacia arriba. Es esfuerzo espiritual debe ser considerado de la misma manera, Es también una voluntad constante de subir a la cumbre, que es la perfección espiritual. El caminante incansable sube con certeza a las alturas, siempre que no se deje desanimar por el trabajo y el esfuerzo que le trae el camino. Su mirada está dirigida hacia arriba, no escatima esfuerzos y siempre se esfuerza hacia la meta.

Cuando se hace la caminata en la tierra de la misma manera, cuando el hombre también asume todos los esfuerzos y penalidades con los ojos dirigidos hacia arriba, cuando no se deja engañar por las alegrías momentáneas del mundo, sino que ya envía a su alma hacia las regiones superiores y tiene toda la voluntad de alcanzar las alturas espirituales, entonces también un día podrá mirar hacia atrás con satisfacción en su camino terrenal, y nunca se arrepentirá de lo que entregó para alcanzar esta meta, para estar en la luz y ser aliviado de todo sufrimiento.

Quien éste en la cima de la montaña y se siente libre de todas las cargas terrenales, quien crea que allí está más cerca de su Señor y Creador, quien ahora deja vagar su mirada por áreas infinitamente amplias y viéndolo todo en su esplendor y belleza, podrá imaginarse a grandes rasgos la libertad espiritual en que el alma puede ver todo lo que le rodea después de haber terminado el ascenso, cómo se siente libre de toda pesadez terrenal y, estando en la luz del divino sol de gracia, se le permite disfrutar de una bienaventuranza indecible. E incluso si el ascenso es arduo, la recompensa es tan incomparablemente gloriosa que supera mil veces todo el sufrimiento y la renuncia que han pasado antes....
