1800 The secret of divine rule and action....

February 3, 1941: Book 27

The secret of divine reign and activity in creation is hidden from you humans, that is, you will not outwardly recognize how the development of all beings takes place, how spiritual and earthly activity are related to each other and what possibilities of development the beings have in order to prepare themselves for the final goal in eternity. To a certain extent this must also remain a secret as long as the human being has no deeper interest in revealing this secret.... but he is not prevented from penetrating into something unfathomable for the general public. There are barriers in place, but man can tear them down if he wants to. A curtain has been drawn, as it were, to conceal something that humanity would not be able to grasp. However, anyone who wants to take a look behind the curtain is not denied this; on the contrary, he is given the greatest possible information, he is allowed to lift the veil that is spread over the reign and work of God as often as he wants. There is a wise reason why God withholds this knowledge from the general public. The empty knowledge.... that only the human mind, but not the heart, would receive would have no spiritual value whatsoever and would only lead to an unprecedented confusion of human thinking. Spiritual activity can only be grasped with the spirit, and again, nothing in creation can be understood until the spiritual purpose is made clear, for the earthly work of creation is based on spiritual causes. The will to get to know the deep meaning of everything that is created also results in the opening up of knowledge; the human being then learns to recognize the earthly purpose of the works of creation as secondary and to attribute the deeper meaning to the spiritual purpose. And now he lifts the veil because he wants to become knowledgeable.... The will is the basic condition. Something should not be spread out before the eyes of the non-willing, which would make the knowing-willing unspeakably happy, but would be received by the former completely unimpressed. What now remains a secret to the latter is like an extremely informative book for the knowledge-seeking person, into which he can immerse himself at will and draw the deepest wisdom from it. He now begins to understand the spiritual currents, he recognizes the work of God, he recognizes the connection between the individual works of creation and their purpose; and now he also understands his mission. He now lives consciously, whereas the ignorant person lives his life uselessly, i.e. only fulfils his earthly task.... He walks outside the curtain, he passes by it and does not know what glories are hidden behind it. Divine love does not withhold the knowledge of His work and reign from any human being. God only sets conditions. So man sets the limits for himself. If he fulfils the conditions, the gift that is now offered to him is also unlimited.... Otherwise, however, he excludes himself, he closes the eyes that could see and the ears that could hear.... He does not avail himself of divine grace, to his own detriment. This spiritually gained knowledge could now be imparted from person to person, but even now the curtain would be drawn again, for the human being who does not seriously want it also lacks the power of cognition. Thus the will is again necessary in order to be able to understand what is presented to him about God's activity and reign in creation. Man can pass his earthly life without having gained the slightest knowledge about this divine secret, but one day it will be revealed to him when he has reached the heights in the beyond. But he will undeniably progress faster in his higher development if he already acquires the knowledge about it on earth, for now all his thoughts and actions can become a blessing for him because he lives life consciously, because he utilizes the spiritual currents and thus is in close contact with the spiritual strength and its giver, who has therefore, as it were, reached the goal which was set by God for every work of creation.... consciously turning to God.... which is the goal and purpose of all creation. The knowledge of everything makes it easy for man to turn to God, the slightest will towards God also imparts knowledge to man, therefore the will must always first become active, but then man can record greatest spiritual success, because he becomes knowing and also enters into intimate contact with God through the knowledge and its imparting....

Amen
