1132 "Remember the poor in spirit...."
October 10, 1939: Book 20
You should implore for the gifts of the spirit if you are called to receive them, and what the lord grants you in His love you should gratefully receive so that you make yourselves worthy of His love. And so He especially urges you to remember the poor in spirit who are in need of spiritual nourishment and to whom the bread of heaven can only be given sparingly because they do not desire it. The soul is deprived of spiritual food and remains in the most meagre state, and yet it can only be redeemed from this state with divine help, and so you should now bring this help to it by imparting the divine gift from above, by sharing the bread of heaven which you receive with these poor and taking care of their need. You should give as you have been given, willingly and with the intention of helping them.... In all patience you should impart your knowledge to them and endeavour to feed and water them at all times. And they will thank you for it and their state will be unspeakably freer, for the spiritual food is at the same time the means of liberation from their shackles. If they take it in, they will free themselves from the bonds of darkness, for spiritual nourishment is light and freedom.... Spiritual food is strength, grace and help in the struggle for perfection. And therefore you should constantly ask for it and not let the soul starve, for you are entitled to it in unlimited measure, and all your desire should be directed towards standing in God's grace and receiving food and drink from Him, so that the soul will be relieved and reach its goal....
Amen
